Leialoha
Honestly, I had a bad reaction to the notion of a sunbonnet sue block. Visceral, negative response; but the more I thought about a sunbonnet "you", the more i embraced an opportunity to celebrate things in my native hawaiian life. I am looking forward to the warmer dry season in Puna, back to board shorts and pareo/sarongs...this project has brightened the end days of the wet season! Got my signature bun and fresh picked gardenia peeking out a pā'ole pāpale. the hat I am manifesting for future me to make out of lauhala, for now it is a niu (coconut frond) woven hat. Searched my aloha print for a good candidate in a smaller kapa print for this tiny figure. Finally, slippers to finish off my ensemble. I reside in a rain forest, surrounded by encroaching jungle...this batik really reflects the atmosphere, spot on. I must be headed to the airport, cuz I have a fresh lei ready to present to a visitor to my island home. Upon reflection, I am really glad I participated in this traditional quilt block challenge! I didn't think I could relate to it, but now it is framed in my sewing studio and I am delighted to see it every day
