“Sew” the Seeds of Creativity in a Nine-Month Journey of Discovery

Celebrate your love of the natural world and all its radiant beauty through the medium of fabric in our brand-new Block of the Month program. Led by Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh, this interactive, nine-month program invites quilters to explore floral and botanical fabrics, whether you’re just beginning or looking to work with them more confidently and intentionally.

A Quilt That Grows With You

Month by month, you’ll learn how to draw color inspiration directly from nature, choose quilt block designs that best support floral fabrics, and explore stitching techniques that bring flowers and foliage to life. Each lesson is thoughtfully paced, allowing you to build skills and confidence over time, without pressure to rush, compare, or strive for perfection.

Along the way, you’ll journey virtually through gardens, landscapes, and studios where nature has inspired artists and makers for generations—inviting you to look closely and draw beauty from the world around you. By the end of the journey, you’ll have a finished quilt, a more intuitive relationship with floral fabrics, and the satisfaction of having spent nine months making something beautiful in good company.

Our special guests include Kaffe Fassett & Brandon Mably, Penny Jeffries, and Sarah Campbell.

On the third Wednesday of each month*, there will be a two-hour BoM live stream session from 1-3pm Pacific time (9-11pm UK time). During these sessions, you will experience insightful interviews, join creative challenges, and chat with fellow participants. Plus, there will always be a few extra surprises along the way. You will then put what you learned into practice at your own leisure, sharing your progress as you go!

This is a virtual BoM—no camera required—so find a comfortable location and simply log in to your Attendee Hub. (Shortly after registering, you will receive an email from Quiltfolk with login instructions.) In the Attendee Hub, you can view live stream and/or pre-recorded lessons, access bonus tutorials, share your progress, and more!

*Check the schedule for variable dates.

This BoM will teach you to make a one-of-a-kind quilt, which uses the beauty of flowers, foliage, and gardens as inspiration. Each month, we will explore a different element that will grow your garden quilt. Additional themes we'll explore include:

  • Dynamic fussy-cutting and raw-edge appliqué with legendary duo Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably.
  • Beginner-friendly, hand-painted designs with internationally acclaimed textile designer Sarah Campbell.
  • A mini embroidery masterclass that will teach you to bring the joy and details of flowers, critters, and foliage to life.

Plus, you'll visit designers' studios, The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles, and much more!

The monthly virtual live stream sessions will be led by your favorite workshop hosts Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh! And you will also gain regular insights from some wonderful special guests:

  • Kaffe Fassett & Brandon Mably are the duo of designers behind the Kaffe Fassett Collective and are both well-known for colorful designs and bold prints. Dedicated to brightening the world of textile arts with his designs, Kaffe is also the author of numerous quilting books, including Bold Blooms, a celebration of pattern and color inspired by the natural beauty of flowers.
  • Penny Jeffries is a textile designer and screen printer. She draws on pattern, color, and the fluidity of nature to produce unique, hand-drawn and hand-printed fabrics and art prints. In collaboration with FreeSpirit Fabrics, her "Blostma & Song" collection features playful, expressive botanical prints inspired by the natural world.
  • Sarah Campbell is an internationally acclaimed textile designer and pattern painter, the author of numerous books, and a mentor and tutor through workshops and work with textile graduates. A collaborator with FreeSpirit Fabrics, her recent "Joyful" collection celebrates color and movement, drawing inspiration from alfresco living, sunlit gardens, and festive gatherings. The collection ranges from richly decorative paisleys to lively flashes of color.

A FREE Live Stream Welcome Party for ALL!

World Quilting Day, March 21, From 12-1pm PDT (7-8pm GMT)

Welcome & Graduation Gifts:
You will receive a few special welcome gifts, including a special-edition spiral-bound notebook, a Blackwing pencil, and a custom sticker sheet (perfect for adorning your notebook pages), as well as a year-end graduation gift.

Access to a Private Facebook Group:
You will also be given access to our BoM Facebook Group, and we invite you to share your work across social media with the hashtags #QuiltfolkBoM and #BotanicalBoM.

Lifetime Access:
The recordings of each monthly live stream session will be available in the Attendee Hub for lifetime access. That way, if you would like to revisit the recordings at a later time, you can do so as often as you would like!

What will the finished quilt project look like?
This BoM will give you all the tools needed to make the Botanical BoM quilt. You will have the ability to pick your own fabric and embellish in different ways, so everyone’s project will look a little different—and that’s what makes a Quiltfolk BoM unique!

Is there a kit?
This BoM does not include a fabric kit. Instead, your hosts will talk you through how to make the most of your current stash! If you’re a beginner or starting without a fabric stash, Jenni and Kay will provide guidance on purchasing any materials you might need to maximize your creative options (while being mindful of budget, of course).

How does billing take place?
You’ll pay a $60 registration fee + $25/month for nine months of the BoM, starting April 1, 2026 and ending December 1, 2026. This amount will be automatically processed on the first of every month during the program.
