Karen designed Cotton Daisies in 2016, and it has been her best-selling pattern ever since! The key to success? Choosing complementary fabrics for the petals that blend well together to create a shadowing effect (no contrasts!). This pattern is very versatile; choose your favorite color palette to create a beautiful daisy quilt of your own. Imagine using blues for bachelor buttons, blacks and golds to create black-eyed Susans, or even reds or pinks for poinsettias. Oh, the possibilities!

About Karen Walker

Karen learned how to quilt from her grandmother, cutting squares with scissors and sewing them together on a machine. She was 13 when she made her first quilt. After a long hiatus, she dipped her toes back into quilting when she found a turtle pattern that she wanted to make for her (at the time) 5-year-old son. That is when she discovered the world of rotary cutters, acrylic rulers, mats, etc. Her rekindled love of quilting motivated her to start a quilting group at her church in the late ‘90s. She loved the process of making things with different fabrics and colors—and, even more so, she loved being around others doing the same thing.

At this time, she sent her quilts out to be finished by a longarmer. But when the longarmer shared that she was transitioning out of the profession, she sold her machine to Karen. So, she turned this newfound opportunity into a longarming business while her kids were in college. From there, more doors continued to open, and she followed with genuine curiosity. For instance, shortly after someone asked if she ever wanted to design quilts, a beautiful picture that she took of a quilt made out of scraps (now known as her first pattern Pumpkin Spice) went viral on Pinterest around 2009. She kept making designs, and now she is creating new fabric lines for Riley Blake Designs!
