Some quilts are so delicate that they’re taken out only on special occasions. Some quilts are fancy, with special provenance; those quilts are often kept in museums. But other quilts, like Jenny, are made to be used and loved. These quilts are part of the day in, day out, everyday way most of us live our lives most of the time.
And as long as the everyday quilts we have in our lives are cared for (e.g., kept out of the sun and away from moisture), a simple block quilt like Jenny arguably gets better with time. Her hot pink fabric will soften with repeated washings. Her quilted daisy motif will relax further into the batting. And the most valuable part? The memories you’ll have of Jenny’s presence in your everyday life will mean that every time you see her, it’s a special occasion.
