We’re thrilled to reintroduce the Manx Log Cabin, reimagined with brand-new film footage, updated instruction, and the full Quiltfolk production crew behind it. Whether you’re new to this technique or ready to fall in love with it all over again, this is the most beautiful version yet.

Taught by the ever-inspiring Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh, this workshop invites you into a hand-pieced process that is both meditative and freeing—no rulers, no rotary cutter, just torn fabric, your own hands, and a rhythm that’s refreshingly personal.

The Manx Log Cabin is special for many reasons. Using your own handspan, fingers, and thumb to measure the block, it creates a uniquely human connection between you and the quilt you make. It’s delightfully imperfect, completely portable, and altogether satisfying.

About the Manx Log Cabin
Jenni’s connection to the Manx Log Cabin is personal. A dear friend of hers, Annmarie, learned the technique from an older Manx woman while sitting on a stone wall and watching the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy motorcycle races. Annmarie then shared this low-maintenance quilting technique with Jenni, who continues to teach it to others in memory of her friend.

Another friend of Jenni’s, Lucy Brennan, shared the following about the creative process:

Jenni Smith’s class was a real treat—learning to hand stitch a Manx Log Cabin. This traditional method is unlike anything I’ve done before. I RIPPED fabric, using parts of my hand as a guide for measurements, and it was scary, thrilling, and brilliant! As soon as I made one block, I knew I would make more because it’s such a mindful process. It’s very freeing, away from the precise cutting and piecing of traditional machine patchwork. Hand sewing is self-care for me, and this coverlet project has been an absolute joy to work on.” – Lucy
