Legends & Legacies: 13 Quilts for Reproduction Prints by Carol Hopkins

  • Paperback
  • 80 pages
  • 8.25 x 0.25 x 10.75 inches

Create quilted legacies with best-selling author Carol Hopkins. Thirteen Civil War-style quilts are inspired by the people, places, and events of this unique period in history. Quilters can gather their reproduction fabrics and stitch tributes to trends of the time, like military timepieces and hoop skirts. Along with Carol's exquisite designs to make step by step, readers will enjoy learning interesting tidbits about the Civil War and stories about how each stunning quilt came to be.

About the Author
Carol has always been drawn to antique quilts, both for their classic designs, and soft, faded colors. She is known for making miniature and full-size quilts using reproduction fabrics. She has published two books and owns Carol Hopkins Designs, her own pattern business. Her two series of patterns include Civil War Legacies and Vintage Legacies. While many of her patterns are small doll quilts or wall hangings, several are large enough for napping and full-size bed quilts, and all could be easily adapted to a size that fits the quiltmaker’s preference.

  • Paperback
  • 80 pages
  • 8 x 0.25 x 10.5 inches

Many children were left fatherless after the War Between the States, and my sister, brother, and I were no exception. So begins the story of Carrie and her family as they travel from western Virginia to Kansas in 1871 to start a new life. With fascinating details based on family records, award-winning quilter and author Martha Walker weaves snippets of both fact and fiction into Carrie's story, imagining what the young girl may have seen on the way to her new home. Inspirations from the hills of western Virginia to the flowering flatlands of the prairie are creatively depicted in 10 quilt projects that range in size from a table runner and wall hangings to throws and bed-sized quilts. Helpful tips for success, along with intriguing facts about life on the plains, round out the spectacular collection of prairie-inspired gems.

About the Author
Martha publishes patterns through her company Wagons West Designs and is the author of five books and many patterns featuring quilts, wool appliqué, and punchneedle embroidery projects. Her quilts and designs have been widely featured in domestic and international quilting magazines, and she has also designed several fabric lines for commercial fabric manufacturers.
