When I watched the advanced trailer for our October Adventure Workshop in Ireland, my eyes started to well up halfway through. The film wasn’t finished. It wasn’t color-corrected. There wasn’t even a voiceover. But watching the visuals, seeing what the team had accomplished during their time on the Emerald Isle, and recognizing how far we’ve come in our workshop production…just got to me.
I am so proud of our team. But, I’m also incredibly grateful to all of you who have made Quiltfolk Adventure Workshops possible. For those who have taken any or all of our workshops, I think Ireland will exceed even your wildest expectations. And if you haven’t joined us yet, I certainly hope you’ll consider it. These workshops require a tremendous amount of planning and preparation—from the international travel and the logistics that go into packing hundreds of pounds of film equipment, to designing custom projects and tutorials, to obtaining permits and special access to some of the world’s most iconic destinations. It’s all so much work…and, yet, it is so, so worth it.
The custom project for Iconic Ireland: Legends & Linens of the Emerald Isle is a Mini Causeway Quilt that was personally designed by Adventure Workshop hosts Kay Walsh and Jenni Smith. Inspired by The Giant’s Causeway, a natural wonder found in Northern Ireland, you will learn how to create a simple pattern on freezer paper and sew accurate seams on linen—without any English paper piecing. The main project can be completed within hours, but you will also learn how to continue on with added personalization.
And beyond the project, you will delve into the richness of quilt history, both past and present. You will uncover the lives of quiltmakers—understanding the eras in which they lived, the challenges they faced, and the victories they achieved. Through their quilts and fabrics, you will connect with their stories, their artistry, and their enduring legacy. This shared journey deepens our appreciation for the craft and strengthens the bonds within our quilting community.
“Telling the stories behind the stitches” started as a simple idea—a tagline—seven years ago. But, today, seeing the stories we’ve been able to share together, has grown beyond what I could have ever imagined possible.
This is for you…for all of us…to better appreciate and enjoy this incredible community of quiltmakers.
I hope you are as excited as I am when you watch the (now-finished) trailer for Iconic Ireland: Legends & Linens of the Emerald Isle! The live workshop premieres on October 4-5, 2024, and anyone who registers will receive lifetime access to the recordings and resources.
