The quilt top that would become Fern attracted us right away. The spinning Pinwheel blocks call to mind windmills on a family farm or fall leaves swirling on harvest day. With a nod to Charlotte’s Web, that timeless tale by E.B. White, we named this quilt after the story’s protagonist Fern Arable.
The top came to us in excellent shape, which meant it was a good candidate for longarm finishing. With a quilt as scrappy as this one, there are plenty of options for backing. We went with a gray woven that would coordinate well with the top and add a touch of sophistication too. We think it all combined to make this vintage top “some quilt.”
