Italy has captured the hearts of adventurers for centuries with its rich visual culture, stunning landscapes, and abundance of creativity. Painting and sculpture is often center stage, but our mission for Quiltfolk’s 10th Adventure Workshop is to discover the nation’s hidden textile treasures, past and present.Â
This fall, join adventure hosts Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh on a grand textile tour of Italy, where you’ll discover quilts and so much more as you explore Pisa, Florence, Verona, Venice, and Burano.
The Project: A Quilted Landscape Inspired by the Florentine Hills
Join Jenni and Kay as they guide you step-by-step through sewing a simple quilted landscape inspired by their time in the Florentine Hills with master quilter Annamaria Brenti, whose stunning pictorial quilts reflect her deep love of Italy and are admired worldwide.Â
With step-by-step guidance, as you work through the project, you’ll learn foundation paper piecing, hand appliqué, walking foot machine quilting, and how to add charming details with embroidery thread to stitch a picture-perfect project of inspirational Italy. Once completed, these skills will empower you to create landscapes of your own, wherever inspiration takes you.

Can you imagine wandering through the historic streets of Verona with beautiful patchworks and pictorial quilts greeting you around every corner? Jenni and Kay are thrilled to share their first experience of the biennial Verona Tessile festival, hosted by the Italian quilt group Ad Maiora.Â
Our dynamic duo relished in their two-day trip to multiple locations around the city, meeting with exceptional quilters, soaking up all the details, and capturing the stitches in their full technicolor glory, so you can experience all of it with them.Â
