Embark on a journey of discovery through some of London’s most iconic textile institutions.
Join Quiltfolk on an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of perhaps the most iconic haberdashery in the world: Liberty of London. Brimming with bolts of fabric just waiting to be stitched into beautiful quilts, this shop is a much-loved destination for quilters for good reason! Join adventure workshop hosts, Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh, as they discover the history of Arthur Liberty’s emporium of wonders and teach you how to stitch the Discovery Quilt, a nautical-themed patchwork intrinsically linked to Liberty’s 150 years of design heritage.
You’ll make a nautical-themed quilt, inspired by the Liberty building itself, where timbers from two decommissioned warships were used in its construction. This design uses a foundation paper pieced Mariner’s Compass set among Storm at Sea blocks, which give the impression of rolling waves, despite using straight lines throughout!
