Italy has captured the hearts of adventurers for centuries with its rich visual culture, stunning landscapes, and abundance of creativity. Painting and sculpture is often center stage, but our mission for Quiltfolk’s 10th Adventure Workshop is to discover the nation’s hidden textile treasures, past and present.
This fall, join adventure hosts Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh on a grand textile tour of Italy, where you’ll discover quilts and so much more as you explore Pisa, Florence, Verona, Venice, and Burano.
Join Jenni and Kay as they guide you step-by-step through sewing a simple quilted landscape inspired by their time in the Florentine Hills with master quilter Annamaria Brenti, whose stunning pictorial quilts reflect her deep love of Italy and are admired worldwide.
In this workshop, you’ll create your own quilted postcard of Italy featuring Florence’s famous Duomo (or cathedral) nestled in the rolling Tuscan landscape. As you work through the project, you’ll learn foundation paper piecing, build color confidence, and acquire the skills needed to stitch a picture-perfect postcard of inspirational Italy.
Annamaria Brenti’s work is breathtaking and aspirational, and this workshop will teach you how to approach stunning views in simple, achievable steps—no matter your experience level.
