Discover the Soul of Scandinavian Design With Jenny Haynes
This winter, we are inviting you to experience Sweden! Discover a country where timeless craft meets modern design and where every detail feels intentional, balanced, and beautiful.
Join Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh, along with friend and Swedish-born quilt artist Jenny Haynes (aka Papper Sax Sten), for an unforgettable, immersive, cinematic journey that blends travel documentary and storytelling with in-depth quilting tuition.
Spread across the two days, you'll experience the landscapes, traditions, and people that shape Swedish textile culture—and learn how Jenny's signature techniques bring Scandinavian folklore to life.
You’ll make a modern quilt inspired by Swedish folk art, using Swedish design and natural forms—including Jenny Haynes’ curved-piecing method and color approach. The design principles that define Scandinavian aesthetics—simplicity, balance, and warmth—reveal how environment and culture can inform your own creative process, showing you how to translate travel and story into fabric and form.
Jenny Hayens is a Swedish designer who studied pattern cutting and tailoring in her native Stockholm before moving to London to study fashion and textiles at the London College of Fashion. After 18 years in London and Sheffield, she launched her own label, Papper, Sax, Sten (“Paper, Scissors, Stone”), known for its award-winning designs.
Her work blends rich colors with pastels, signature curves, and solid fabrics—always rooted in her Scandinavian heritage. This distinctive style earned her a place in Heal’s Swedish Summer Exhibition in 2015 and a feature in Thames & Hudson’s Patchwork & Quilting: A Maker’s Guide for the V&A in 2017.
