Block #5 - 2nd Prompt - Free Motion Embroidery/Sci-Fi. The Day of the Triffids is one of my favorite Science Fiction books. I chose the new edition's cover so I could try making the Andy Warhol-ish style face. I practiced A LOT before starting the actual block. I used fusible interfacing on the background fabric and Lite Steam-a-Seam 2 on everything else. I used a Supreme Slider so the interfacing wouldn't drag. I sewed the whole block with feed dogs down, using a hoop to avoid puckering. I used a darning/hopping foot instead of a free motion foot - which was way easier to control. Learning new skills!!! One thing I didn't do was make the man's shirt long enough. I had to add a strip to the bottom. It should end up in the seam allowance though, so no worries!
