“Gloriously imperfect” is how Foundry finisher Randall Parkin describes the blocks in an irresistible little quilt she named Claudia.
Randall was taken with the way the hexie rosettes were appliquéd a teensy bit off-center in some of the blocks. And the careful fussy cutting meant each hexie held a surprise. Also surprising: Many blocks had made it all the way to the row stage, separated by a skinny sashing strip … made of store-bought bias? Randall decided to replace the bias sashing strips with better-quality fabric in the same pale yellow. So she did.
Claudia was a special rescue: Since so much of the work had been done, we were able to follow through on the original maker’s intent. As luck would have it, the binding was put on this hand-quilted quilt in time to be able to feature Claudia in the Finishing School workshop with Mary and Marianne Fons.

Imperfections: Every Quiltfolk Foundry quilt in our shop began its life as an unfinished vintage top or collection of loose blocks. We seek out lost tops and blocks that are in good condition, but due to the source material’s age and care history, some imperfections in the finished quilts may be present. We hope you’ll see them as we do, just another part of the story.
